MAY
RAFTING TRIP
DAUGHTER
AND MOTHER WEEK END
A
little mother/daughter time can warm the heart like nothing else. Wendy
Andrick, Charyn McDonnell. and Sharon Bitz joined ten girls and
eight moms for three days and two nights on the Oregon coast,
April 26-28. The
weather was balmy enough for some morning ocean side yoga. We
wrote and shared our writings and we ate wonderful food that
the mom’s prepared. We enjoyed seeing the moms connecting
with each other and with their daughters in a fun informal way. Thanks
to the mothers who traveled great distances in several cases
for this occasion.

CLINICAL
TRAINING
May 17,
Mount Bachelor Academy, New Leaf Academy (in Bend) and Northstar Center (in Bend)
sponsored a clinical training for counseling staff from ten western Aspen
Education Group programs: Mount Bachelor, Northstar, New Leaf Academy,
Sagewalk, Sunhawk, Aspen Ranch, Copper Canyon Academy, Youthcare,
Oakley, and Island View. Each program sent a representative
or two and the four local programs sent 10 or more staff members;
there were 72 of us in all. We had the distinct privilege to learn
from Sharon Roszia, MS (one of the world’s foremost experts
on adoption, attachment and grief) in a full day clinical training. Ms.
Roszia’s teaching focused on working with adolescents who
have experienced losses and how to best process those through the
use of non-verbal therapies. It was an enriching experience
which provided us with new insights and ideas in how to support
young people who are struggling.
