Workshops - Feburary 2001
Romania - France
Fourteen students
and three staff members arrived in Romania in September bearing
donations for an orphanage two hours north of Bucharest that Mount
Bachelor students, staff and families have been sponsoring for
three years now. Consuming the warmth of Father Tanase and the
children at the Valea Plopului Orphanage was like a steaming bowl
of soup on a cold day. The group stayed for five days playing
with the children and helping to build a new building for them.
The
peer group moved on to French faire for a week of sampling the
rich cuisine of museums, street life, cathedrals, music, all mingled
with the aroma of boulangeries stocked with baskets of fresh baguettes
and croissants.
The Lifestep(r)
ended with a special legacy ceremony. Like recipes handing down
from generation to generation, the students shared family histories
and hopes and dreams for their own futures.
